What’s new, pussycat?

Whoah-whoah-oh-oh.
Never mind.
Anyway, one of my friends asked me to sew her a sleep mask.
Even though I had a pattern in one of my books, it was a bit boring, plus I didn’t have any tracing paper. Instead I found this great tutorial and used it to make a sassy little sleep mask.

It’s so cute, I think I need to make myself one. Maybe if I wear it my children will all sleep through the night?…

Today.

We were going to go to Portage.
But it snowed.
A LOT.

So we made play-dough.

And chocolate cake.

And I made a sleep mask for a friend. It’s so cute! Pictures tomorrow maybe?
Neil shoveled.

And the boys played in the mountains of snow.

It was a good day, even though we weren’t in Portage.

Big brother/Middle brother.

Seth and Ben are practically joined at the hip. Those two do everything together. Sometimes when Ben wakes up, instead of calling me or Neil, he calls Seth. They even keep each other company when they go to the bathroom. No, I don’t know why you need company when you go to the bathroom.
Anyway, it’s awesome. I love the way they play together and the way that Seth encourages Ben (“great coloring Ben! I LOVE that one!”) and the way Ben repeats EVERYTHING Seth says, pretty much word for word. I hope these two are best friends forever. I have a feeling they will be.

This post also comes with a shout-out to some of our faithful followers, the Kliewer kids. Thanks for reading guys!

Here comes trouble…

Oliver’s new nickname is Trouble.

He is so quiet. You get busy doing something and a while later look around and think, hey, where’s Oliver?
Oh, there he is, under my sewing table.

Pulling out all my fabric scraps. And looking darn cute while he does it.

Big bathtub.

Oliver has moved from the sink to the bathtub for his baths.
It would have happened sooner but for some reason he was completely terrified of the bathtub. I guess it is a lot bigger than a kitchen sink!
Anyway after some intensive therapy (just kidding) he has overcome his fear and can now bathe in the tub. Which is nice because it means I don’t have to do the dishes in such a hurry…

He loves it!
And now we can kill 2 birds with one stone. Well, more like 3 birds with one stone I guess.

Big brother/baby brother.

Seth has loved Oliver ever since Oliver was still a tiny little fetus.
Nothing has changed.
Seth is such a fantastic big brother to Oliver. He is so good at playing with him and making him happy. He shares with him and hugs him and loves him all the time. It is one of the best things ever to go get Oliver up from his nap and carry him into the livingroom where Seth is and see Oliver’s little face light up. He loves his big brother too!

I love watching these two play together. Even if it isn’t always 100% safe.

They’re such good friends already!

And yes, Ben does love Oliver too. But definitely not the same as Seth does. Oliver loves Ben but he also loves getting into Ben’s stuff and Ben’s just not a big fan of that!

A birthday gift.

On Saturday we went to a 1st birthday party.
I made the birthday boy a hooded towel.

I LOVE this one. I cut into a piece of fabric I’ve had in my stash for almost 2 years. I’m planning to make the boys some upholstered headboards with it, but for now, that little piece worked perfectly on that towel. I wanted to make the kids the same one but Seth insists that he must have a red one (that IS his favorite color you know) and so then of course Ben must have blue. Seth and Ben have been using the same hooded towels for years, one of them has been around since Seth’s baby shower! They’re in pretty rough shape and hooded towels are a staple around here so I better make some of these nice big fluffy ones for the boys. I used this tutorial, which I’ve used before, but this time I made the hood a tiny bit bigger so the birthday boy can use it for a few years.
I made a matching card to go with the towel. I love how it turned out.

In fact, I was so pleased with myself that I bundled everything up and completely forgot to write on the card. That was a little embarrassing, but mostly funny, and I’m sure the birthday boy wasn’t too bothered.
I wrapped everything up with a piece of fabric “ribbon” and it was ready to go.

I really had fun making this gift!

Not quite yet.

Ben is phasing out his nap. A lot of days I put him for his nap and an hour later he’s still goofing around (very quietly) in his bed. So I tell him he can get up and come play with us.
But sometimes he still needs his nap…

Happy Belated Birthday, Blog.

I was so excited to be coming up on my blog’s first birthday. Imagining what I would say, what pictures  I would share, what I would reflect on, what I would wear…
So excited that I ended up missing it. It was a couple days ago.

So,

Happy Belated Birthday Blog.

I’m so glad you’re a part of my life.

I think about you a lot. I love that you’re here for me to share my thoughts whenever I want. Even if it’s just a meaningless thought.

I love that you’ve allowed me to record small, unimportant details that I know will one day seem so much more important.

I like that you let me just be myself. And I like that sometimes myself is funnier than I thought it was.  I like that I can make myself (and sometimes even other people) laugh while I’m writing the blog.

I like that people actually read you, blog. Apparently about 35 regulars. I don’t know who  they are, but thank you, readers. You make it a lot more fun to write. Maybe you are actually just 7 people and then my mother reading 28 times a day. That’s okay with me too.

Thanks for everything, Blog. You’ve changed my life a little bit. For the better.

And I just want to say that even though I missed your birthday, I didn’t miss the fact that today marks our 200th post! So congratulations Blog. You’re awesome.

And to mark the special occasion, a picture of me. Yes, you heard it right. Not my kids. ME.

Okay, a kid is in it too. I’m not sure if there is such a thing as a picture of JUST me.

Thanks for all the blogging love and support everyone!
