Kids actually do that?

I was bundling Benji up yesterday, getting ready to head out the door to church, when Neil came in with Seth, who was crying. Neil said, “He stuck his tongue to the stair rail and then ripped it off.” Being the good mother that I am, I immediately started laughing. Kids actually do that?! I’m sorry, but that’s pretty funny. I thought it just happened in the movies. Anyway Seth was pretty upset so I did do the good mom thing and tried to comfort him.

I gave him a cold cloth to stuff in his mouth. It didn’t calm him down much but it did muffle the wails so that was good enough for me.

He continued to cry all the way to church and for a good 5 or 10 minutes in the foyer. His cousin convinced him to give Sunday School a try and soon the pain was forgotten. Until he was reminded of it later on after church and then spent the next half an hour wandering around with his tongue hanging out of his mouth. Gramma distracted him with some blueberries and all was well again.
As Neil put it, “At least he learned young.”
