Please. Make it stop.

As you know, we’ve had a lot of sickness happening in this house. I think that since Christmas, we’ve had a mere two weeks of illness-free time.

The worst stretch has been in the last month or so. Ivy was very sick and completely miserable with what turned out to be a double ear infection. She started on antibiotics a week ago and was so much better and so much happier within a couple days. Thank goodness.

Then last week Oliver started getting very sick. He had a fever and a very bad cough. He was up almost constantly at night, just coughing and crying in his sleep. Terrible. He started antibiotics too, and he’s just now starting to feel a little better, sometimes.

And then yesterday afternoon Ivy got sick AGAIN with a fever and a runny nose. Thankfully despite her fever she’s so far been in pretty happy spirits.

But enough with the sickness already. Please. Make it stop.

With all these sick kids around, sleep has come in tiny snatches throughout the night for the past several nights. As parents to four kids, we know that the odds of us sleeping through the night ever again are very, very small, but it’s just so much worse when you’ve got a kid coughing so hard he can’t sleep.

But last night, despite the sick kids, a miracle happened.

Everyone slept all night. Everyone. All night.
If that’s not a miracle, nothing is.

I woke up around 5 and could not believe that nobody had woken me up yet. I lay there waiting for someone to do just that. I fell back asleep, and woke up at SIX THIRTY when Oliver was calling me (at which point he woke up Ivy and the rest of the house). This is CRAZY people! Ivy hasn’t slept through the night since before Christmas, Oliver was up for half the night the last several nights, and Benjamin comes in our room almost every night of the week with a bad dream. The fact that the stars aligned, or God had mercy on us, or whatever, and that all four kids slept the entire night without making even a single peep is just amazing.

I would really like it to happen again sometime. Considering the last time I slept through the night was sometime mid-fall, I’m expecting it to happen sometime in the late spring.

Confession: the fact that Oliver slept all night without coughing could be due to the fact that I gave him a teaspoon of honey, a teaspoon of advil, an antibiotic, and a dose of baby gravol. Maybe all of those things combined in perfect harmony to make a magic kid “sleeping pill”?

Sooo sad about the sick kiddies but sooooo happy about the night of sleep!!!

Confession: I have mentally filed away your recipe for sleep for a sickie. What are the chances McScreamy gets Botulism anyways…
